Financial support

We have a limited financial support for students, postdocs and young researchers in their early career. Please, check your eligibility according to the following schemes, and apply for financial support by filling in the application package. Finally, submit your application as soon as possible (by February 28, 2015) to the conference chair Dr. Carlo Gatti.

Important news: US- and Canada-based scientists can apply for travel support.

IUCr (International Union of Crystallography) award:

 Eligibility  
Graduate students, post-graduate students or post-doctoral fellows with a maximum age of 30 (exceptionally 35).
 Preference  
a) to those young scientists with a crystallographic background
b) to those young scientists who have published in IUCr journals
 Award conditions  
Awards are given to partly support travel expenses. Awarded young scientists will also benefit of a 50 euro reduction of their selected attendee fee.
 How to apply  
Send (within February 28, 2015) an application to the chair of the Sagamore XVIII meeting carlo.gatti@istm.cnr.it, specifying “Young Student IUCr award” in the subject and including:

a) Personal Data (name, surname, age, nationality, address, e-mail address)
b) Curriculum vitae et studiorum and list of publications
c) abstract submitted to Sagamore XVIII conference
d) provisional travel costs (provide as many details as possible)
e) a brief reference letter from the PhD supervisor or from any other senior scientist knowing the candidate


ECA (European Crystallographic Association) bursary support:

 Eligibility  
Young scientists (under 35) from the ECA "region". The applicant should be registered in the World Directory of Crystallographers (which is free). The applicant should be presenting author of a Sagamore XVIII accepted abstract.
 Preference  
a) Less developed countries of the ECA “region”
b) Scientific merit
c) Reasonable geographical distribution of the fellowships
d) Gender balance
 Award conditions  
a) The successful applicant should become Individual Member of ECA
b) The ECA support should be acknowledged in the conference materials, web pages, and announcements. Where possible, the ECA logo should accompany the acknowledgment
c) The bursary holders should send a short scientific report to ECA (template is here provided)
 How to apply

AIC (Associazione Italiana di Cristallografia) bursary:

 Eligibility  
Young Italian scientists (under 35). The applicant should be “socio” AIC  (or become “socio” before receiving the support). The applicant should be presenting author of a Sagamore XVIII accepted abstract.
 Preference  
a) Scientific merit
b) Gender balance
c) Cost of travel
 Award conditions  
a) AIC support should be acknowledged in the conference materials, web pages, and announcements. Where possible, the AIC logo should accompany the acknowledgement
b) Bursaries are given to partly reduce the attendee fee and/or to partly support travel expenses.

US- and Canada-employed scientists travel grant:

A limited number of travel grants are available for students and young postdoctorals employed in the US or Canada to attend the Sagamore XVIII meeting in Santa Margherita di Pula, Sardinia, Italy, which will take place from June 7-12, 2015.  Details on the meeting and its program can be found at www.sagamoreXVIII.org/. The meeting is sponsored by the International Union of Crystallography.

The travel grants are administered by Philip Coppens, Chemistry Department, University at Buffalo, SUNY. Applications should be submitted not later than March 27 and sent to Lisa Zimmerman at chem9988@buffalo.edu. They should include personal information (name. age, and location of work), a resume and an abstract to be submitted to the meeting.
